The Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine is a medical specialty that professionally diagnoses and manages the treatment and rehabilitation of occupational diseases in workers. It contributes to maintaining and promoting the health of workers in the workplace and preventing diseases. It prioritizes physical, mental, and social health to prevent diseases acquired through employment, and manage workers’ health by encompassing both occupational and non-occupational diseases.
Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act, workers engaged in tasks that involve exposure to hazardous factors prescribed by law (organic solvents, metals, acids and alkalis, gases, dust, physical agents, night work, etc.) are required to undergo health examinations to assess the health effects of such exposures. These are classified as special health examinations, distinguished from general health examinations.
